Day 6: An Invitation from our Glorious God

By Rick Rene of Blessed2Teach Ministries (https://blessed2teach.com)

Prayer Guide Day #6

I will focus on the Lord, which is good food for my soul, and put food in my body that is good for my body.

Isaiah 55:2b: Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.

Lord, I will follow you and delight in you all the days of my life and will feed my body good food that allows me to serve you with vigor.  In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Context

The context of this is not about physical food but about spiritual food.  However, its lessons can be applied to our body, which is a temple of the holy spirit.  The entirety of Psalm 55 is amazing and is a great invitation to receive blessings and glory from the Lord.  We will focus on the first 9 verses for our purposes of how to receive blessings for our body. We will summarize this as “An Invitation for Our Glorious God.” It starts by inviting all who are thirsty to come, even if they do not have money, and enjoy the waters, the wine, and the milk.  Buy these things that have no price!  Next, our verse asks us why we would work for and buy things that are not satisfying and are not true bread.  This points to spiritual bread that Jesus discusses in John 6:

John 6:35: Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.

Instead we should listen to the Lord and eat “food that is good” and delight in “rich food.”  We should listen, hear, and come to the Lord “that our soul may live.”  If we do that, we will be able to share in the covenant and love of King David and Israel.  Many nations/gentiles will run to David/Israel because God glorified them, as discussed in Jeremiah 30:

Jeremiah 30:9:  But they shall serve the Lord their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.

The ultimate fulfillment of this will be in the future when all nations come to celebrate the feast of booths.

We should seek the Lord and call upon him while he is near and can be found.  Even though the wicked and unrighteous will forsake his way and thoughts, we should return to the Lord since he will have compassion on us and abundantly pardon us!  We need this compassion and pardon because of how far apart our human nature is from God, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. In fact, his ways and thoughts are higher than ours, like the heavens are higher than the earth.

Devotional

Our glorious God invites us to experience amazing things as we draw near to him, which has nothing to do with money:

  • Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters;
  • He who has no money, come, buy and eat!
  • Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.

Spiritual food is what we really need:

  • Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy?
  • Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food.

We can apply this to feeding our bodies with good, healthy food, but for our souls, we need spiritual food as discussed in 1 Corinthians:

1 Corinthians 10:2-4: …and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.

To receive this spiritual food, we need to listen and act:

  • Incline your ear, and come to me;
  • hear, that your soul may live;

And God promises to bring us into the Davidic Covenant:

  • and I will make with you an everlasting covenant,
  • my steadfast, sure love for David.

God’s people and others will come to the Lord because God glorified David:

  • Behold, I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples.
  • Behold, you shall call a nation that you do not know, and a nation that did not know you shall run to you,
  • because of the Lord your God, and of the Holy One of Israel, for he has glorified you.

Now is the time to seek the Lord:

  • Seek the Lord while he may be found;
  • Call upon him while he is near;

The wicked dismiss his ways and thoughts:

  • let the wicked forsake his way,
  • and the unrighteous man his thoughts;

We all need his compassion and his pardon:

  • let him return to the Lord, that he may have compassion on him,
  • and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

As we do this, we know he will provide for us:

Matthew 6:33:  But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

With our poor food supply now, organic good food and supplements can be expensive.  However, if we seek first his Kingdom, he will provide for us.  Then we are reminded that God is much greater than us:

  • For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
  • Neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
  • For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
  • So are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

This is why we need to seek him and come close to him because we naturally will do things in our flesh and with our thinking vs. his ways and thinking.

Romans 12:2:  Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

As we renew our mind in his word we can think more like him and actually do things his way.  This will include feeding our bodies with good food and drinks as we seek the body, mind, and spirit he intends us to have.

Lord, I accept your invitation to come near you and to seek your face for spiritual food that cannot be purchased with money. I also will fill my body with healthy food and drinks so that I will have the mind, body, and spirit to be able to serve you. I commit to renewing my mind in your word to test and approve your good, pleasing, and perfect will for me!  In the name of Jesus, Amen.
