Day 3: Partakers of the Divine Nature!
By Rick Rene of Blessed2Teach Ministries (https://blessed2teach.com)
Prayer Guide Day #3
Because your Holy Spirit has taught me who you are, I have peace. Through this knowledge and power, you have equipped me with everything I need. Your promises keep me from the evil in this world as I learn to walk in your nature.
2 Peter 1:2-4: May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
Lord, thank you for multiplying grace and peace in me and equipping me to be a partaker of your divine nature. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
Context
The full context of these powerful three verses requires us to understand the seven following verses which are about “Confirming Your Calling and Election.” Peter starts with a prayer for the believers that they will be multiplied with grace and peace based upon the knowledge of God and Jesus. If we want to have a mind filled with peace and not stress and anxiety, we need to start with this knowledge as emphasized in Proverbs:
Proverbs 9:10: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.
This knowledge grants us everything we need to live a life of godliness. Peter then advises us on how to supplement our faith with virtue, self-control, affection and love. If we can own these qualities, it will keep us from being ineffective or unfruitful and we will never fall. If we lack these qualities, we may forget how we are cleansed from our prior sins. Peter then asks us to be “diligent to confirm your calling and election.” All of us have a calling as discussed in Ephesians 4:
Ephesians 4:1: I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called.
We are chosen and called by God and when we are walking in our calling we will not fail and will enter “into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!”

Devotional
Peter sets up the scripture passages about “Confirming Your Calling and Election” through a prayer for us:
- May grace and peace be multiplied to you
- in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord.
A key to grace and peace is having this knowledge of God and Jesus. How is this? Well, Peter answers that next:
- His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness
- through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence
- by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises
Why is God granting us his glory, excellence and great promises?
- so that through them, you may become partakers of the divine nature
- having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire
Therefore, we should “make every effort to” exercise these seven qualities:
- supplement your faith with virtue,
- and virtue with knowledge
- and knowledge with self-control,
- and self-control with steadfastness,
- and steadfastness with godliness,
- and godliness with brotherly affection, and
- brotherly affection with love.
What is the reward of living these seven qualities?
- they keep you from being ineffective
- or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ
If we lack these qualities, we show we are blind to how we are “cleansed from our former sins.” We are then encouraged to be more diligent to:
- confirm your calling
- and election
Yes, we have a calling and were elected by God as discussed in 1 Peter:
1 Peter 2:9: But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
If we practice the qualities above and confirm our calling and election we will:
- never fall
- enter into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
How awesome that God has called each one of us!
“Father, Thank you for choosing me to be a royal priesthood. I am a partaker of your divine nature and will live out my calling with grace and peace! In the name of Jesus. Amen.”
