Day 5: You Keep Us In Perfect Peace
By Rick Rene of Blessed2Teach Ministries (https://blessed2teach.com)
Prayer Guide Day #5
My Lord is an everlasting rock in whom I trust, so I have perfect peace!
Isaiah 26:3-4: You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.
Lord, no matter the circumstances I face, I will stay in perfect peace because I trust you. You are my everlasting rock! In the name of Jesus. Amen.
Context
The context of these two popular verses in Isaiah about “perfect peace” and “trust in the Lord forever” is the first 15 verses of Isaiah 26. We will discuss this in four sections:
God’s Protection and Strength: This section describes a song praising God’s protection of Judah as a strong city and encourages trusting Him for peace and stability.
- The people celebrate their “strong city,” with God’s salvation acting like protective walls.
- They call for the gates to open so faithful, righteous people can enter.
The “gates of righteousness” are discussed in Psalm 118 as well:
Psalm 118:19-20: Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the Lord. This is the gate of the Lord; the righteous shall enter through it.
- God gives perfect peace to those who keep their minds focused on Him and trust Him.
- The people are urged to trust God forever because He is a steady, unchanging rock.
In our lives, God’s protection is like a shield when we face challenges, such as stress at school or family struggles. By praying and trusting Him, we can find peace, like a calm in the midst of a storm, no matter what is happening around us.
God’s Justice and Triumph: God humbles the proud and unjust, allowing the poor and needy to triumph over their enemies.
- God brings down those in lofty, prideful cities, reducing them to the ground.
- These proud places are completely destroyed, reduced to dust.
- The poor and needy trample the ruins, showing their victory over the powerful.
Today, this principle can be applied to standing up against unfairness, such as tyranny or unequal justice. God supports those who are overlooked or mistreated, giving them the strength to overcome their challenges. God’s justice encourages us to trust that He lifts up the humble and helps those in need, even in our world today.
The Path of the Righteous: God provides a smooth path for the righteous, who long for Him, and promises peace despite the wickedness of others.
- God makes the path of the righteous smooth and easy to follow.
Psalm 37 lets us know that the key is delighting in the Lord’s ways:
Psalm 37:23-24: The steps of a man are established by the Lord, when he delights in his way; though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong, for the Lord upholds his hand.
- The people wait for God, eager to honor His name and His judgments.
- Our soul yearns for God, seeking Him earnestly, especially at night.
- God’s judgments teach the world righteousness, but the wicked ignore His greatness and act corruptly.
- The wicked don’t see God’s power, but the people pray for them to feel shame and face consequences.
- God will bring peace to His people because He is the source of all their good works.
This applies to us by showing that living with honesty and kindness keeps our path clear, even when others make bad choices. God guides us today to live rightly and promises peace when we stay close to Him, no matter what others do.
God’s Faithfulness and Victory: The people honor God’s sole authority, celebrate His victory over false rulers, and praise Him for expanding their nation.
- The people admit that other “lords” once ruled them, but now they only honor God’s name.
Psalm 20:7: Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
- These false rulers are dead, destroyed by God, with no memory left of them.
- God has grown the nation of Judah, expanding its borders and earning glory.
This passage reminds us to prioritize God over the distractions of the world. God’s faithfulness today helps us put Him first, overcome distractions, and be part of His bigger plan and the path he has for us. We can trust him to guide us and keep us in perfect peace because he is our everlasting rock!

Devotional
Isaiah begins showing us that in the future Isaiah 26 will be song that Juda sings about trust, faith and peace:
- In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah:
- “We have a strong city; he sets up salvation as walls and bulwarks.
- Open the gates, that the righteous nation that keeps faith may enter in.
- You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.
- Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.
This reward of peace is discussed in Isaiah 30 when addressing rebellious people who were unwilling to trust:
Isaiah 30:15: For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” But you were unwilling,
God humbles the elites and will cast them to dust and they will be trampled on by the poor and the needy as they have victory:
- For he has humbled the inhabitants of the height, the lofty city.
- He lays it low, lays it low to the ground, casts it to the dust.
In the previous chapter, 25, Isaiah discussed the fate of the elites:
Isaiah 25:12: And the high fortifications of his walls he will bring down, lay low, and cast to the ground, to the dust.
- The foot tramples it, the feet of the poor, the steps of the needy.”
This reward of victory and humbling the wicked will be because we honor the Lord:
- The path of the righteous is level;
- you make level the way of the righteous.
- In the path of your judgments,
- O Lord, we wait for you;
- your name and remembrance are the desire of our soul.
God told Moses in Exodus that the great “I Am” is to be remembered:
Exodus 3:15: God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations.
We need to seek his face:
- My soul yearns for you in the night;
- my spirit within me earnestly seeks you.
And often it takes judgement before people learn:
- For when your judgments are in the earth,
- the inhabitants of the world learn righteousness.
- If favor is shown to the wicked,
- he does not learn righteousness;
- in the land of uprightness he deals corruptly
- and does not see the majesty of the Lord.
This is why God has to discipline us and the entire land at times. Soon they see how God honors his people and will repent or be judged:
- O Lord, your hand is lifted up,
- but they do not see it.
- Let them see your zeal for your people, and be ashamed.
- Let the fire for your adversaries consume them.
The Lord gets all the glory:
- O Lord, you will ordain peace for us,
- for you have indeed done for us all our works.
- O Lord our God, other lords besides you have ruled over us,
- but your name alone we bring to remembrance.
Yes, we will remember the Lord, but the remembrance of the evil ones will be wiped out:
- They are dead, they will not live;
- they are shades, they will not arise;
- to that end you have visited them with destruction
- and wiped out all remembrance of them.
And blessing will flow to those who glorified God:
- But you have increased the nation, O Lord,
- you have increased the nation; you are glorified;
- you have enlarged all the borders of the land.
And this will create great joy! This joy is also discussed in Isaiah 9:3:
Isaiah 9:3: You have multiplied the nation; you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as they are glad when they divide the spoil.
In our times we see evil being exposed worldwide as God’s judgement is becoming more obvious. Our job is to seek his face and trust him and in due season we will reap! In the meantime, during the turmoil we can remain in perfect peace!
Father, I will not be afraid, I will not be discouraged, because I know you are with me. I will delight in you and seek your face despite the chaos all around me. This allows me to live in perfect peace as I place my trust and faith in you! In the name of Jesus. Amen.
