Emily Peterson’s Background and Early Advocacy (2021 Mask Mandates)

• Her fight started in 2021 when schools forced masks on children—she believed it was about control and child abuse, not health or safety.

• She helped get Iowa legislation passed on May 20, 2021, removing mask mandates from kids in public schools.
• Parents celebrated; many kids told her it was the best school day ever after getting their freedoms back.
• She spoke on stage at ReAwaken Tour with Jim Meehan, sharing stories and motivating parents across the country to stand up.
• This built a nationwide “mama bear” network of parents fighting for children.

The False CPS Accusation Against Her Family (2022)

• On August 9, 2022, DHS/CPS showed up at her door accusing her 17-year-old son of sexually abusing her 9-year-old daughter (a completely false report).
• She immediately called the police, recorded the entire interaction, and insisted everything happen in front of her and her husband.
• She knew key rights: do not let CPS question minors alone, stay calm (anger can be used against you), and record everything.
• The investigator subpoenaed the anonymous report’s audio and phone records, which traced it back to one person close to her.
• Her family was cleared after 20 days; the accuser pled guilty but got only a simple misdemeanor (no jail time).
• Emily gave a victim impact statement and forgave the person, which helped her heal.
• She learned these strategies partly from another ReAwaken family who lost their seven children and shared wise advice.

Pushing for Change: New Laws and National Goals

• After her case, Emily worked with Iowa legislators (including Mark Thompson, who fights human trafficking) to make false child abuse reports a felony instead of a misdemeanor.
