PASTOR CHE AHN’S CALL TO RUN FOR GOVERNOR OF CALIFORNIA

• Pastor Che Ahn had a powerful encounter with God on April 28th. The Lord woke him at 2:22 a.m. and told him to lay everything down and run for governor.
• He first resisted because California is very progressive with extreme Marxist-socialist ideas and strong Democrat control, making a win for a conservative Republican pastor seem impossible.
• God spoke again with a small, still voice: “With Me, all things are possible.”
• He asked for confirmations and received them fast: he met President Trump twice in 2024 (once at Mar-a-Lago and once before a rally in Atlanta where he was one of the pastors who prayed). Then, five hours after asking God for a White House invite, he got an email invitation to the National Day of Prayer in the Rose Garden.
• His wife reminded him of a vision she received in 1982 (42 years ago) about revival coming to California, and she believes his run for governor will help start that revival.

STRATEGY: MOBILIZING THE CHURCH FIRST, NOT JUST POLITICS

• Pastor Che Ahn is focusing on the church (the Ecclesia) as the main force, based on Matthew 16:18 where Jesus says He will build His church and the gates of hell will not prevail.
• He is creating prayer hubs of two or three people to pray for revival, reformation, repentance, and fasting.
• These same hubs will act as volunteer teams to support his campaign and get out the vote.
• He believes everything rises and falls with the church, not just political parties.

CURRENT CAMPAIGN STATUS

• Originally 13 Republicans were running; the field has narrowed after the registration deadline.
• He won the first debate among the 13, receiving 57% of first-place votes (Steve Hilton came in third).
• He is currently third among Republicans but closing the gap quickly.
• In Craig Huey’s Christian voters’ guide, he received perfect A’s on every issue: pro-life, pro-marriage between a man and woman, pro-religious freedom, pro-Israel, etc. His opponents scored much lower (around four out of seven).
• In 2020 he sued Governor Newsom over church lockdowns (Newsom called abortion clinics, marijuana dispensaries, and liquor stores essential but not churches) and won the right to stay open during litigation.

MAJOR REVIVAL EVENTS PLANNED

• A four-day fast begins March 1st with thousands (possibly tens of thousands) participating.
• On September 11th, they are renting the LA Coliseum to mark the 120th anniversary of the Azusa Street revival.
  • 12–4 p.m.: solemn assembly with prayer and fasting.
  • 4–10 p.m.: evangelistic outreach with youth evangelist Nathan Morris, targeting young people.
  • Event will be bilingual to reach the Hispanic community in LA.
• A pre-rally conference runs April 7–11 (moved to Saturday, April 11th, close to the actual 100th anniversary date of April 9, 1906, so kids can attend school-free).
• Registering for the conference gives VIP seating at the stadium.

VIEWS ON KEY CALIFORNIA AND NATIONAL ISSUES

• California is a one-party state (about 75% Democrat registration, but 80% vote Democrat even for some Republicans).
• Open borders and sanctuary policies protect illegal immigrants, including criminals and gang members, from deportation.
• He supports legal immigration (he came legally as a five-year-old with his family).
• He wants common-sense policies: ban men from women’s sports, restore parental rights, stop transgender indoctrination in schools.
• AB 1955 prevents teachers from telling parents if a child wants to change pronouns, name, or pursue surgery; the state can take custody if parents object.
• California schools rank 48th in test scores; basics like reading, writing, and fractions are not taught well.
• He plans to restore strong education based on his own family’s emphasis on learning (siblings attended top schools like Johns Hopkins, Duke, and Smith).

PRAYER REQUESTS AND CLOSING

• Needs name recognition outside church circles and major funding for media (commercials in production).
• U.S. citizens in all 50 states can donate up to $39,200 per person.

Rick’s Interview with Mat Staver (Liberty Council) at NRB 2026

LIBERTY COUNCIL’S MISSION AND WORK

• Founded in 1989 by Mat Staver and his wife Anita (now in its 36th year).
• Focuses on advancing religious freedom, sanctity of human life, and God’s design for marriage and family.
• Fights legal battles nationwide, including at the U.S. Supreme Court.
• Current major battle: religious freedom versus the LGBTQ agenda, which seeks to censor, de-platform, and silence Christians.

POSITIVE SHIFTS IN THE CULTURE WAR

• The transgender agenda is collapsing; half of Fortune 500 companies are dropping support for LGBTQ causes.
• In January, a New York jury awarded $2 million to a girl who sued her psychologist and plastic surgeon for removing her healthy breasts at age 16.
• Shortly after, the American Academy of Plastic Surgeons stated they no longer recommend such surgeries on minors.

HOW LIBERTY COUNCIL BEGAN

• Mat was a pastor when he watched the documentary Assignment Life (1983) about abortion, which opened his eyes.
• He also grew frustrated with the ACLU removing nativity scenes every Christmas.
• Started Liberty Council to fight for life and religious freedom.
• Helped overturn Roe v. Wade (2022) and the Lemon test (1971), which had damaged First Amendment protections for religious expression.

JOHNSON AMENDMENT DISCUSSION

• Passed in 1954 by Lyndon Johnson to silence churches on political candidates.
• Never caused any church to lose tax-exempt status, but used as a threat.
• Trump weakened enforcement with an executive order; Mat says Congress must codify it into permanent law so future presidents cannot reverse it.

ELECTION AND CULTURAL CONCERNS

• Urges voting based on biblical values.
• Democrats are united on abortion, LGBTQ issues, open borders, and anti-Israel positions.
• Calls for secure elections and voter ID (notes hypocrisy when politicians require ID for their own events but call voter ID racist).

• Wrote books: one sharing his story, “On the Duty of Christian Civil Disobedience,” and prequel “Bold, Not Belligerent” (helps Christians build boldness step-by-step, including getting out of debt).

• Faces strong pushback on topics like saying “Merry Christmas” instead of “Happy Holidays” in December (calls it illogical).
• Content has been removed from platforms; his restaurant even faced a boycott page.
