Day 3: Promises to the Church – Our Heavenly Inheritance

Introduction

In the Church Age, God gives believers amazing promises: eternal life, the Holy Spirit as a seal, a place in heaven, and spiritual blessings right now. These promises differ from Israel’s earthly ones and give us confidence to live boldly and to bring in the harvest.

Why this matters today

The world is full of uncertainty, but these promises keep us steady and excited about sharing the gospel. Revelation views shape how we see them: Premillennial sees them as hope before the rapture; postmillennial sees them growing through gospel victory; amillennial sees them as a spiritual reality now. All views claim these promises to stay strong and reach people for Christ.

Section 1 – Key Scripture & Reading

This section begins to reveal the Church’s special promises—spiritual blessings in heavenly places and being raised and seated with Christ right now.

Spiritual Blessings and Sealing

Ephesians 1:3–14: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love, he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth. In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

Raised and Seated with Christ

Ephesians 2:4–7: But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.

Summary

God has already blessed you with every spiritual blessing in heaven and seated you with Christ above every trouble. You are sealed by the Holy Spirit as proof of your inheritance—secure, loved, and chosen. Let these truths lift your eyes from fear to faith and fuel your courage to share the gospel today!

Section 2 – Teaching & Explanation

This section continues with Jesus’ comforting words, showing us a prepared place in heaven and the constant help of the Holy Spirit living inside us.

A Prepared Place

John 14:1–6: “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am, you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.”

Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Revelation 21:3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God.”

This vision of the new heaven and new earth echoes Jesus’ promise of a prepared place—ultimately fulfilled when God’s presence dwells fully and eternally with His people.

The Spirit’s Help

John 14:16–17, 26: “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” …

“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.”

Romans 8:11: If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

This powerful promise highlights the indwelling Spirit’s life-giving power—assuring us of resurrection hope and daily empowerment as He lives within believers.

Summary

Jesus promises a prepared eternal home in His Father’s house and sends the Holy Spirit to dwell within believers forever, offering guidance, teaching, and empowerment—truths centered on grace, eternal security, and spiritual reality rather than Israel’s earthly covenants of land and nation. These heavenly promises provide unshakable assurance, whether viewed as pre-rapture comfort by premillennialists, as growing gospel victory by postmillennialists, or as our present spiritual inheritance by amillennialists. Regardless of eschatological perspective, they anchor our faith in a world filled with fear and uncertainty. They fill us with hope, inner strength, and bold courage to share the gospel, knowing the harvest is ready and time is urgent. Jesus is personally preparing your forever home and has already given you the Holy Spirit to live in you, guide you, and empower you every day. These are not distant dreams but your present reality in Christ—stand firm with an untroubled heart and tell someone about the Savior who is the way, the truth, and the life!
