Day 5: Three Distinct Persons, Yet Only One God

By Rick Rene of Blessed2Teach Ministries

Introduction

This is the heart of the Trinity: one God who exists forever as three distinct Persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—always perfectly loving each other. We’ve established there’s only one God, and we’ve seen the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit each fully God. Today, we tie it all together: these three are distinct Persons, not modes or masks, but real relational beings in eternal fellowship. Yet they are not three gods; they are one God in perfect unity. This mystery isn’t meant to confuse us—it’s meant to draw us into the divine love that has existed from eternity. Understanding the Trinity isn’t about solving a puzzle; it’s about entering a relationship with the God who is love itself.

Why This Matters Today – A Christmas Lens

In this Christmas season, the Trinity shines brighter than ever. The eternal love between Father, Son, and Holy Spirit overflowed into our world when the Father sent the Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit, to be born in a manger. The same God who has forever existed in a perfect relationship stepped into time to invite us into that family. Cults and false teachings still deny this triune God, but the Christmas story proclaims it boldly: one God in three Persons working together to redeem humanity. This crushes loneliness, models perfect unity for our divided world, and reminds us that the baby in Bethlehem is the eternal Son entering His own creation—because the triune God’s love could not be contained. If God isn’t triune, there’s no Christmas; if there’s no Christmas, there’s no Savior. Today, as lights twinkle and carols sing, let the Scriptures reveal the Trinity so you can worship the God who became Emmanuel—God with us.

Section 1 – Key Scripture & Reading

We’re not building on ideas or analogies today. We’re letting the Bible show us the Trinity in action: three distinct Persons, each fully God, working in perfect harmony. These verses capture moments where all three appear together or interact distinctly — especially radiant in the Christmas story and beyond. Get ready to see the Godhead revealed.

Matthew 3:16–17: And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

Matthew 28:19: Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

2 Corinthians 13:14: The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

John 14:16–17: And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.

John 15:26: “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.

1 Peter 1:2: according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ and for sprinkling with his blood: May grace and peace be multiplied to you.

Hebrews 9:14: how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

Luke 1:35: And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.”

Galatians 4:4–6: But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”

Clearly, the above verses show the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as distinct—Jesus prays to the Father, the Father speaks about the Son, the Spirit descends on the Son, and all three are invoked together in baptism and blessings. At Christmas, we see this harmony perfectly: the Father sends, the Spirit overshadows, the Son becomes flesh. They interact relationally, yet share one “name” (essence). This is the Bible’s consistent revelation of God’s triune nature—celebrated every Christmas.

More Key Verses That Declare the Trinity

If you want to go even deeper (or equip yourself against teachings that deny the three Persons or their unity), here are additional crystal-clear Scriptures you can read, mark, and memorize. God reveals His triune self throughout the Bible—especially in the wonder of Christmas.

Genesis 1:26: Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

Isaiah 48:16: Draw near to me, hear this: from the beginning I have not spoken in secret, from the time it came to be I have been there.” And now the Lord GOD has sent me, and his Spirit.

Acts 10:38: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

Jude 1:20–21: But you, beloved, building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ that leads to eternal life.

Summary

Every sunrise echoes the Trinity’s work: the Father plans, the Son executes, the Spirit applies. At Jesus’ baptism, the heavens tore open to reveal the divine family. At Christmas, those same heavens opened again as the Father’s beloved Son entered our world through the Holy Spirit’s power. This isn’t three gods coordinating; it’s one God in eternal conversation, inviting you into the dialogue. The same triune God who said “Let us make man” now says “Let us make you new”—and proved it in a Bethlehem stable. Your heart was designed for this relational God; anything less leaves you empty.

Section 2 – Teaching & Explanation

Okay, we’ve read verses showing the three Persons distinctly yet united. Now let’s unpack why the Bible reveals God this way and what it means for us—especially this Christmas season. Spoiler: the Trinity isn’t a contradiction—it’s the ultimate revelation of love, because God has always been in a perfect relationship within Himself.

Before we go further, lock this down: the Bible teaches one God (monotheism) eternally existing as three co-equal, co-eternal Persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They are not three parts of God, not three modes He switches between, and not a hierarchy where one is “greater.” Each is fully God, distinct in role and relationship, yet inseparable in essence, will, and work. This is the mystery of the Godhead: unity in diversity, diversity in unity. The entire Bible—Old and New—overwhelmingly displays this triune reality, and Christmas is its most beautiful display.

Ephesians 1:3–14: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world… In him you also… were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance…

Here are the big, life-changing truths the Bible teaches about the Trinity:

  1. The Trinity is revealed in creation and salvation: From Genesis’ “Let us” to the manger, the Father elects, the Son redeems, the Spirit seals—all in perfect harmony.
Genesis 1:26: Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…”
Psalm 33:6: By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host.
  2. The Persons interact relationally at Christmas: The Father sends the Son, the Spirit conceives Him in Mary—proving distinction without division.
Luke 1:35: And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God.”
Galatians 4:4: But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law…
  3. They share divine works equally: Baptism, blessings, incarnation, and sanctification invoke all three.
Matthew 28:19: …in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
1 Peter 1:2: …foreknowledge of God the Father, in the sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ…
  4. Old Testament hints point to the New—and to Christmas: “Holy, holy, holy” foreshadows the three Persons who would break into history in Bethlehem.
Isaiah 6:3: …Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts…
Isaiah 48:16: …the Lord GOD has sent me, and his Spirit.
  5. The Trinity models perfect love—and overflows at Christmas: Eternal fellowship means God is love, and that love became flesh to save us.
2 Corinthians 13:14: The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit…
John 3:16: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son…

Denying the Trinity distorts God—and empties Christmas: If not three Persons, love isn’t inherent; if not one God, the manger holds no Savior.

  1. Jesus’ whole ministry reveals the Trinity, beginning with His miraculous birth: the eternal Son loved by the Father, conceived by the Spirit.

John 17:21: …that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you…

Summary

The Trinity isn’t a doctrine to debate; it’s a reality to experience—and to celebrate this Christmas. The Father who planned your salvation, the Son who was born to purchase it, and the Spirit who conceived and now applies it are one God loving you with one heart. This unity crushes division, this diversity celebrates relationships. When it sinks in, you stop seeing God as distant and start worshiping the God who left heaven’s perfect fellowship to bring you into it—born as a baby under a star. Rest in the triune embrace this Christmas; it’s been waiting for you since before time began.

Section 3 – Reflection / Memory / Application

Truth in your head is good, but truth in your heart changes everything. This section is where we take the Trinity and make it personal—especially in this holy season. Let’s get practical.

A quick summary to carry with you

We serve one God eternally existing as three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—distinct yet united, relational yet one. False teachings shrink this to modes or hierarchy, but the Bible shouts triune glory from Genesis to the manger to Revelation. When Jesus commanded baptism in the triune name, He was revealing God’s essence. That same Godhead saves you: Father choosing, Son born and dying, Spirit indwelling. Christmas is the Trinity’s love made visible.

Memorize Matthew 28:19 and 2 Corinthians 13:14:

Matthew 28:19: Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

2 Corinthians 13:14: The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Reflection Questions

  1. What lie about the Trinity have you believed (e.g., it’s not biblical, the Catholics came up with it)?
  2. Which verse above most destroys that lie? Speak it out loud ten times today or add it to your memory verses.
  3. Picture the Trinity in the Christmas story—Father sending the Holy Spirit and the Son, Spirit overshadowing Mary, Son becoming flesh. How does this deepen your worship this season?

 Practical Steps Today

  • Three times today, out loud, say: “Father, Son, Holy Spirit—I belong to Your fellowship, and I celebrate Your love born in Bethlehem.”
  • Every time you see Christmas lights or hear a carol, declare: “The triune God is perfect love and unity—Emmanuel!”

Summary: In these last five lessons, we built an unshakable foundation: there is only one true God, eternally existing as three distinct Persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—in perfect, unbreakable love and unity. From declaring the oneness of God, to revealing the Father’s tender heart, the Son’s full deity in the manger, and the Holy Spirit’s personal presence, Day 5 ties it all together in the glorious truth of the Trinity. This Christmas, we see that eternal relationship reaches down to us: the Father sent His beloved Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit, to be born in Bethlehem—so that we might be drawn into the same divine fellowship. You are not approaching a distant, isolated God, but a loving family who never competes, always celebrates, and has overflowed that love into our broken world through a baby’s cry. Drop every distorted view, step fully into this triune love, and live in its embrace—it is your eternal home and the greatest gift ever given.

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, you are one God in perfect love. Thank You for revealing yourself, and for Christmas, when your love became flesh. Heal distortions in my view; draw me deeper into Your eternal fellowship. Let my Christmas worship reflect your triune glory today and forever. In Jesus name, Amen.
