God chose Gideon to Deliver Israel from the hands of the Midianites. Gideon was considered to be the least of his father’s house.
God instructed him to destroy the alter of Baal and to construct a new alter to him. This caused the Midianites and the Amalekites to seek revenge on the Israelites. They called together a massive army of about 135,000 men and camels in vast numbers.
Gideon’s army was only 32,000 men and this was a great concern to him and his men. God then, told Gideon that his army was too big. God told Gideon to tell the men who had the greatest fear to be sent home, and 10,000 men were sent home. This only left only 22,000 men. Then God spoke to Gideon and said that 22,000 is still too many, so Gideon said he didn’t know how to reduce the numbers.
God reduced the numbers by having Gideon send men to the river to drink in three different groups. Out of the three groups God told Gideon who ever Laps the water like a Dog from there cupped hands set them aside. Three hundred men drank water this way and so Gideon’s army was reduced to 300 men.
Gideon was concerned, but he had great faith in God because God said I will deliver Israel with these 300 men.
Then Gideon and one of his men went to the enemy camp and overheard a dream that a biscuit of barley rolled into the enemy camp and and turned over and destroyed the tent (one little biscuit). The Dream was interpreted by as being the Gideon army, and Gideon realized it was God confirming his small army would overtake them.
God instructed Gideon to give each man an empty pot with a lamp in it and a trumpet and instruct them to follow Gideon’s lead and do as he did. The 300 positioned themselves around the perimeter of the camp, and after the shift change around midnight, they all sounded the trumpets. By sounding the trumpets, they caused massive confusion in the camp and they men there started killing each other. This greatly reduced their numbers and they fled because they thought there were many more Israelites in Gideon’s army.
Gideon and his 300 pursued them and then other Israelites joined in. The chase went on for miles and days, and God provided food for them. Then they finally caught up to Zebah and Zalmunna and the other 10 Kings and cut of their thumbs and big toes. They were taken to Jerusalem where they died. The Midianites and the other Armies that raised a sword against Gods Army were reduced to 15,000 men, from 135,000 men.
God saved Israel and the Glory went to Him. God is Saving America and the Glory goes to him.
